Will you stand together with the world’s poorest people?

“Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” Proverbs 31:9 (NIV)

This week, you may have seen that the UK government has won a vote which will reduce UK aid from 0.7 to 0.5 per cent of gross national income. This may not seem like much, but it represents a £4 billion reduction in spending.

The 0.7 per cent pledge was enshrined in law and the cuts mean that the government is going back on its promises to millions of people across the world. People you care about.

These cuts will have a devastating impact on the world’s most vulnerable people. You may have seen news reports about how funding for healthcare, education and clean water projects will be reduced.

You may not know that Leprosy Mission projects in Nepal and Bangladesh will be directly affected and that our teams there will no longer be able to support as many people affected by leprosy. This is devastating news for us all.

Right now, coming alongside them has never been more vital. Today, will you set up a regular gift that will help people affected by leprosy at this time of crisis? Please show them how much you care.

A gift of as little as £8 a month could have a real impact, making sure that four people are cured of leprosy in the next year.

£12.50 a month could provide livelihood support to someone affected by the disease, helping them earn a regular income.

And a gift of £17.50 a month could train two health workers in the year ahead to spot the signs of leprosy, making sure even more people get the help they need.

The government may have gone back on its promise to those we serve, but God’s compassion for the poor is eternal. When you pledge to give a monthly gift to help bridge the gap left by the aid cuts, you’ll send a message that the world’s poorest people matter and that you won’t leave them behind.
